  1. David Lewin says:

Thanks for taking the time and effort to prepare this map. I don’t think the proposal provides the best possible representation for Palm Beach County (PBC).

I would propose that after the 2010 redistricting process, in accordance with Fair District amendments 5 and 6, PBC, which is currently partly represented by five (5) state senators, should be represented by three (3) senators. I base these suggestions on the following facts:

Florida 2010 census total population of 18,801,310 divided by 40, the total senate districts, means that each senate district would consist of a population of 470,033, (current district
population 399,559). PBC 2010 census total population of 1,320,134, divided by 470,033 should mean that PBC would have 2.81 senators. If Deerfield Beach, Broward County,
population were included, PBC would have three state senators.

I would suggest that redistricted senate district boundaries are drawn much along the lines of current boundaries for districts 25, 29, and 30, and incorporate the PBC areas currently represented by districts 27 and 28.

Your time and attention is much appreciated.

  2. Mr. Lewin- For these plans you have to start at the bottom of the state with districts 40, 38, and 36 to preserve their basic makeup. Then you work your way up. In order to implement your request for Palm Beach County, someone would have to draw those three districts first and then draw the other 37 districts off of them. That’s not how it works. The minority access districts, or the districts at the edges of the state, get drawn first. Period.

  3. Mr. Ketchel-
You have 1 majority black district. 2 is what they’re looking for.
